    • Arius emphasized unity of God (Father)
    • Claimed that Jesus was divine, but not fully God, equal to the Father: "Word" is greatest creature, but not fully divine
    • Denied that God is a Trinity of Person
  • Bishops overwhelmingly affirm that Jesus is the Son of God, Consubstantial with the Father
    • "God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God, Begotten not Made"
    • One in being with the Father, of the same nature (homo-ousios).
    • Son is not simply of a similar nature (homoi -ousios).
